About Me

  • Hello you. I'm a 38-year old MSc student, studying Advanced Computer Science at Sussex University. I'm especially interested in Internet and mobile software, sensors and pervasive computing, user interfaces, and the process of developing great software.

Before that I spent 11 years running Future Platforms, a software company I co-founded which makes lovely things for mobile phones, and which I sold to Vexed Digital in 2011.

I read a lot, write here, and practice Aikido and airsoft. I live in Brighton, a seaside town on the south coast of the UK, with two cats and a clown.

It takes ages to work out how to think about 'nothing', or even merely a simple thought / idea. Possibly it's impossible. I still struggle to even think slowly - if an idea starts then I just leave it there rather than worrying about it or thinking 'oh shit I'm thinking!'. Sometimes that doesn't happen either, but you do get used to doing it (even if the act of doing it is in fact doing 'nothing').

Very often I realise I'm thinking about what I'm having for the next meal though. Possibly this is also a very essential part of human nature : eat sleep procreate. Possibly it's becuase I'm just greedy.

Yeah - that's what we were told to do. If you notice yourself thinking about something, don't TRY not to think - just accept it and let it go.

We have X million years of evolution shouting "MONGO NEED FOOD NOW" in your (lizard) ear... I guess that's what makes this difficult. Some people seem to (claim to) manage it though. Sounds like you're closer than me :)

Interesting though. And (I suspect a bit like dreaming) left me feeling much clearer-in-the-head than before...
