About Me

  • Hello you. I'm a 38-year old MSc student, studying Advanced Computer Science at Sussex University. I'm especially interested in Internet and mobile software, sensors and pervasive computing, user interfaces, and the process of developing great software.

Before that I spent 11 years running Future Platforms, a software company I co-founded which makes lovely things for mobile phones, and which I sold to Vexed Digital in 2011.

I read a lot, write here, and practice Aikido and airsoft. I live in Brighton, a seaside town on the south coast of the UK, with two cats and a clown.

Hi Tom,

good to see you as always. An interesting evening, and not at all bad for the inaugural meet methinks. Which talk of the three impressed you/held your attention the most?

Tom Hume

I really enjoyed Chris Yanda's talk, if only for the unique style of delivery. But Richard Jelbert bravely gave out so much useful information on the real-world difficulties and problems of doing the (terrifying) thing he does, so I think he'd pip Chris to #1 position (just).

Agreed on Richard's stats and inside knowledge. Of course he did mention subsequently that one of the reasons for giving out the stats was to dissuade competition! I think he came away looking very good after this (and I owe him a beer for my name checks!).

Chris gave a really engaging talk.
