About Me

  • Hello you. I'm a 38-year old MSc student, studying Advanced Computer Science at Sussex University. I'm especially interested in Internet and mobile software, sensors and pervasive computing, user interfaces, and the process of developing great software.

Before that I spent 11 years running Future Platforms, a software company I co-founded which makes lovely things for mobile phones, and which I sold to Vexed Digital in 2011.

I read a lot, write here, and practice Aikido and airsoft. I live in Brighton, a seaside town on the south coast of the UK, with two cats and a clown.

As you possibly know I've been a k750i (and k600i sometimes) user for a while now, also bailing out of Symbian. Add in Opera Mini and Shozu Java and there's nothing I really miss. Also you can send quality Voice MMS' which is always handy.

As a long time SE user (and usability/UI guy), I agree wholeheartedly with you. However, I do have a couple of gripes. The first is the ease of installing Symbian Apps and the breadth of those available. The second is that the SE browser is notorious in it's rendering of XHTML. having been involved in the design of a carrier mobile portal, the SE's probably gave us the most grief. My favourite short-cut is the press-and-hold for finding contacts in the phone book really quickly.

sorry, just to clarify, I know you can't install symbian apps on an SE, what I meant was that the breadth of symbian apps available and their ease of instalation...
