About Me

  • Hello you. I'm the 36-year old Managing Director of Future Platforms. We make lovely things for mobile phones, for lots of people you've heard of (Microsoft, Hasbro, the BBC, Nokia, Channel 4) and many you won't have come across.

When I'm not doing that I read a lot, write here, and practice Aikido. I live in Brighton, a seaside town on the south coast of the UK.

I think you nailed it by mentioning that Android's ultimate goal is persuading the industry to do the right thing.
(In theory) With Android, your average (Java) developer can create useful applications without using obscure APIs (i am looking at you symbian) and crippled functionalities (involving addressbook, sms, things that you should have access at the first place. Android is not a revolution, but an evolution towards a better landscape.

Possibly... but Java developers can create useful applications without obscure APIs today. I've not seen much that Android does which J2ME doesn't have with existing JSRs.
