FunkyZoom : techniques for browsing photos on mobiles (via Anti-mega)
September 15, 2004 | CommentsExperimenting with form factors
September 15, 2004 | CommentsT-Mobile are launching a new handset blatantly designed to blur the line between phone and music player. How good a job it'll do isn't clear, particularly given the fairly measly on-board storage, but it reminds me of what I saw when I went out Japan in August 2000: a massive variety of form factors for mobile devices, seemingly targeted at loads of niches.
At the time, the Japanese operators seemed much more inclined than their European counterparts to experiment with form factors: maybe we're starting to see that attitude drift towards Europe?
On a related note, I *really* need to get out to Japan again.
DScape, FP and iPods
September 15, 2004 | CommentsWe're going to be providing some funky mobile services for this event, being run by local digital cluster bods Wired Sussex at the end of October.
Talking through the line-up for the night, it sounds like Dr Michael Bull might be speaking; I'm really looking forward to hearing him if so, having read some interesting articles about his research into iPod users.
Code Camp Day 3
September 15, 2004 | CommentsWell Code Camp is wrapping up, so not too much to report. Last night they threw us a bit of a party. More drinks and food than most people knew what to do with, a BBC DJ, and a couple of slight of hand magicians that were really good; bent spoons, and 50 pound notes popping out of thin air. The folks at Orange have really put quite a bit of effort in organising this event. Its made for quite an enjoyable time.
This morning I was up at 8:00 to see a presentation on Microsoft .Net for mobile devices. Its quite a slick system they have built with .Net, the same classes for windows work on mobiles. Its sort of a Java like model. Not suitable for everything by for pocket pc development its probably the way to go.
Well thats pretty much it for Code Camp. Just the closing ceremonies to come.
